EMPATHIZE + DEFINE

Users have expressed the need for enhanced insights from formative and practice assessments, emphasizing the importance of data interpretation in planning and decision-making processes.

Understanding the needs and pain points of users was crucial in developing effective data analysis solutions. In this case, the stakeholders included districts, teachers, students, and administrative staff. Data serves as a vital tool in assessing student understanding and guiding their learning journey. The aim was to provide users with efficient access to relevant data, particularly focusing on enabling teachers to utilize real-time responses to assessment items. Additionally, it was essential to ensure that assessment items align with the curriculum to accurately gauge student understanding.

I need to assess whether interventions were effective

I need to diagnose the root cause of student gaps

JOBS TO BE DONE (TEACHERS)

In order for teachers to help students succeed, they need to assess their performance and quickly identify who needs extra help or more advanced tasks. They also need to figure out why students are having trouble with certain concepts and fix any misunderstandings early on. Lastly, teachers need to provide specific support to help each student do better in school.

JOBS TO BE DONE (ADMINS)

As a school district administrator, they need to easily identifying potential issues in student performance trends, ensuring that misconceptions are promptly addressed to prevent their long-term impact on student learning pathways, and accurately identifying the root causes of any misunderstandings. Also, they need to help streamline the process for teachers to identify and deliver resources for intervention or extension activities, ultimately minimizing the time required for both assessment and implementation. By achieving these objectives, they can effectively support students' academic growth and success, ensuring that interventions yield tangible improvements in student performance within the district.

PROTOTYPE

In collaboration with cross-functional teams, including project managers and engineers, we addressed these challenges by focusing the prototypes on enhancing the user experience through streamlined access to data and improved interpretation tools. Our aim was to expand lesson types and surface data from all types in reporting, including dashboards, item analysis, and data download features. Strengthening the connection and consistency between reports provided users with a cohesive and intuitive experience. In-app guidance was incorporated to assist users in interpreting the data effectively. Throughout the development process, this collaborative approach ensured that the prototype aligned with project objectives and technical requirements, facilitating the seamless integration of formative data into dashboards to cater to the needs expressed by users.

TEST

User testing was essential to validate the effectiveness of our prototype. We conducted usability testing with teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to gather feedback on the prototype's functionality and usability. Through iterative testing, we refined the prototype based on user feedback to ensure it met the needs and expectations of our users. Additionally, we monitored user engagement metrics to assess the impact of the prototype on user interaction and satisfaction.

OUTCOMES

Since assignments drive the need to view reports, our Frequent and Power teacher user groups are most likely to derive value from reports given their 30-50% assignment creation activation rate.

I love that the data shows results for Cool Downs and Practice Problems as well as Assessments so I can see if a student is improving over the course of a unit.”

The implementation resulted in significant improvements in user experience and data accessibility. User feedback indicated a high level of satisfaction with the streamlined access to data and the enhanced interpretation tools. The inclusion of formative data in dashboards proved to be particularly beneficial for teachers in their decision-making processes. Additionally, the enhanced dashboard improved connection and consistency between reports resulted in increased user engagement and efficiency in data analysis. Overall, the new features successfully addressed the identified challenges and provided users with a more efficient and intuitive experience for accessing and interpreting data.
